Nutritional Impact on Mental Health

Nutrition can affect so many aspects of your mental health from memory to mood to alertness. This can apply to everyday people and athletes alike. Nutrition has to be addressed if one wants to optimize their athletic career. We all know it can boost the physical performance of athletes, but many must learn the benefits of nutrition towards an athlete's mental health. Statistically, proper nutrition for an individual athlete can increase their tolerance of stress and reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression. Athletes with proper nutrition for their sport tend to see positive results in physical performance due to their mental performance being excellent on a consistent basis (Sheehan, 2018). An athlete’s mood and alertness is more stable over time as well when they are eating the right foods. Mood and alertness can directly affect aspects of physical performance like reaction time, power, and agility.
